To begin with...

Welcome students.

The focus of this studio is to peruse conceptual links between regionalism, communication over distance and mass production as they impact the design result. It is not clear to me where or when this conversation happens. On my monitor? Yours? Inside a cable? Simultaneously or discontinuous?

Architecture is inextricably linked to place. Activities happen within buildings. Newer modes of communication alter our notions of place to allow meetings / conversations to linger in time and space. Apple.Inc is in the business of distributing products that foster this alteration of time and place.

With thoughts such these, and related exercises, we will consider the implications of designing a retail space for Apple.Inc in the city of Boston.

I look forward to your inquisitive and productive participation.
